Bio

Roula Sorour is a multidisciplinary British Lebanese artist.

Working at the intersection between seeing and hearing, she mixes paintings, drawings, graphics, sound bites and her own compositions, to create paintings photos and audio visuals reminiscent of our erratic volatile and unstable world.

Her work revolves around issues of power and visibility and  has been shown in London, Berlin, NY, LA ,Paris, the Netherlands, Turkey , and Lebanon.

Is it because we are living in an environment of constant change and instability, or is it because she comes from that part of the world where instability is the norm, and where drastic change is urgently needed?

No matter what the reason is, Roula has always been fascinated by change, and the balance and struggle between two opposing states. Of major concern to her is the shift of this delicate line between peace and chaos, good or bad ,right or wrong...It is the direction of this shift that will change our perception and shape the future .

Paintings, drawings, photos , textures from found materials are all manually or virtually , collaged ,modified ,torn, crumbled or even destroyed to create virtual landscapes that are reminiscent of our erratic volatile and unstable world. These landscapes explore the constant struggle and need for change in order to detoxify body, mind, spirit and planet, from anything negative ranging from stereotypes, violence , racism, toxic illusions to germs, viruses and everything in between.
